WOF supports inshore, offshore and land tournaments for all species of fish.
  • Measurement: Contestants take a live photo of their catch in the app next to a measuring device. Longest photo-verified fish wins.

  • Weigh In: Host includes details in the derby description regarding time/place where weigh-in will occur. Contestants must be physically present to win.

At this time, any tournament created in the app is open to all users. We understand the desire to create a private tournament for just your friends and are working on this feature! You can make a tournament more exclusive by limited the geographic region for tournament eligibility or by establishing a time/place for weigh-in where contestants must be physically present to win.
Yes, this is a popular reason for using the WideOpenFishing app! It is recommended you use a live well or bucket to keep the fish alive while you get your camera ready to capture your catch in the app before releasing it.
We recommend the tournament host write specific winning qualifications that encourage no contact, such as: ‘First fish wins’, ‘First contestants to hit a certain quantity of fish by a specific time fish wins’, ‘or ‘Take picture of fish with measuring device’ for a measurement tournament.
Describe in the rules that the charity will X% of all entry fees. You can then reserve the 3 rd place spot as that %, allowing the winner and second place to still receiving winnings, while 3 rd place winnings will go to the charity.
Yes, explain in the rules that the host will take the 3 rd place winnings and collect the % specified. Contestants will agree to the terms of the derby upon registering.
If you choose to have your winnings e-deposited, payment will be disbursed to your account within 7 business days. Checks will be mailed within 30 days.
Stripe requires identity verification for any user receiving a payout. In the United States, identity verification is conducted by providing the last 4 of your SSN. If you do not have an SSN, please email contact@wideopenfishing.com to provide an alternative form of identity verification.
Winners are initially determined by the tournament host and verified by WideOpenFishing with reference to the criteria set out in the tournament description.
